Overview

inktomd is built around a simple principle: your files are yours. We process documents to convert them to Markdown, and then we're done. We don't store your files, we don't build profiles, and we don't sell data. Here's exactly how everything works.

File Uploads & Processing

When you upload a file to inktomd:

  • Your file is sent via HTTPS to our backend server (Google Cloud Run).
  • The file is processed in memory by Microsoft's open-source MarkItDown library.
  • Any temporary files are deleted immediately after conversion completes.
  • We do not store, log, or retain any file content. Files are never written to disk permanently.

No User Accounts

inktomd does not require any registration or account creation. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal identifying information. You are completely anonymous when using the free conversion service.

Rate Limiting

Free users are limited to 10 conversions per day. This limit is enforced entirely on the client side using localStoragein your browser. No usage data is sent to or stored on our servers. Clearing your browser's localStorage resets this counter.

Cookies & Analytics

inktomd does not currently use cookies or analytics tracking. In the future, we may integrate:

  • Google Analytics — for aggregate, anonymized usage statistics (page views, general geographic region). No personally identifiable information.
  • Google AdSense— for displaying ads to support free usage of the service. AdSense may use cookies to personalize ads based on your browsing history. You can opt out via Google's Ad Settings.

If and when these services are enabled, this policy will be updated with full details.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share any personal data with third parties. We have no personal data to share — because we don't collect any. The only third-party service currently in use is Google Cloud Run as a hosting platform for our conversion backend.

Theme Preference

inktomd stores your light/dark theme preference in localStorage. This is a functional preference stored locally in your browser and is not accessible to us.
